  • Rocktron Hush the pedal

hey guys what do these go for now and days ? I've seen em for 60 to 50 bucks online roughly new , how bout used what should they go for and do you guys think it's the best one for high Gain stuff , I know the ammott bros [arch enemy] used em and use em and they use em through 5150's my amp is a XXL but in many ways it sounds similar to a 5150 so this was the noise reduction I was thinking of getting , are there any better any I should avoid ? let me know , cleve and horns666 should know abit about this so make sure you guys post lol ! //Steve

and buy the way the reason I am asking is cause the store I work at wants 200 bucks plus for one cause he doesn't carry the rocktron line that much , and in my pedals or future pedals [I only go 2 right now but I can get tons through the store I work at] and not having one of these is definatly the weak link in the chain , so I need one damn it lol //Steve

Most of the noise in the 5150 is in the preamp section. That's where I ran my hush and it worked well.

Are you running something prior to the amp that is really noisy?

You could get a rackmount hush that would do better for cheaper than $200. An older guitar Silencer would be very good and they are analog, so they don't alter the sound like the digital hush units will. The digitals tend to be tone coffins in a way.

As for the Ammot Bros, well they use some odd stuff. I saw an old 70s Maestro Parametric pedal amongst the floor pedals one was using. You KNOW that is one noisy beast. Hard to believe that they'd use that considering those products were never that great to begin with...

They do have a nice tone on the albums for the most part. Live, they're "ok", but nothing stellar.

I used one on a studio gig for a heavy Manson type band. The setup was a Blue Voodoo amp and cab (thiers)with the pedal in the loop and teh amp wide open. It work pretty well.I was using their guitar players rig.

Damn edit function... I meant to say that since the main noise in the 5150 is the preamp section, I ran mine in the loop also... Best place...

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">all my stuff I am running in the front right now a danolectro cool cat chorus and a volume pedal but I want to get a good delay and a wah and some other **** to screw around with , I can't use my clean channel fx loop to run the cool cat through as the clean channel on my amp in also a bypass so it doesn't work but the cool cat works through the heavy channels witch is useless to me cause I never use chorus on my heavy channels , but a delay will sound awesome through the fx loop , but the rest I think I'll run through the front and use the hush pedal to clean things up , will this effect my tone badly ? and do I run the hush pedal before or after the volume pedal ? I think after but I am not sure as i have never tryed one yet [rocktron hush pedal] but like I said thats where I saw it from was some pics from the arch enemy site and those 2 dudes are my faves so I thought I'd try one . thanks for the input guys let me know //Steve

              Re: Rocktron Hush the pedal

I'd try to find an older Hush pedal with the two footswitches instead of the newer one with only one. I've heard some not too great things about the newer import Rocktron pedals. Then again, I usually use a Boss NS2 in front of my amp, sometimes I use the Hush that's in my old Rocktron Surf Trem pedal in the loop with great results, too.

Yeah, that's an older pedal. Dimebag Darrell has used one of those, too. You can set different settings for your clean channel and your distortion channel.

I'm not too sure, but I believe my Surf Tremolo pedal listed for like $210. I got it for like $70 on ebay a couple years ago before they discontinued the old line. I think the Hush Pedal might have been around the same, maybe a little more. Musician's Friend is selling the new version for $70.

I bought the 2 button Hush The Pedal at a local Music Go Round for $40. I think it's pretty good but so is the MXR Smart Gate, look into that one.

                              Re: Rocktron Hush the pedal

I tried the two button Hush pedal and didn't like it. I haven't heard the newer one button unit yet but I heard that the MXR was suppose work pretty good.
I would look for one of the older gray Boss two knob noise gate, that one works a lot better than the new Boss pedal.
I, myself use the earliest version of the Rocktron Hush II, I think it is the best for quieting pedals. It's a 1/2 rack, A.C. powered unit that's mono that has one knob for threshold, 3 buttons, power "on" or "off", in or out, Line or Instrument.
