I absolutely love the MXR SMart Gate pedal. It was a pretty penny, though. I think like 160 bucks from, ahem, Musician's friend. I freakin' love it. It's great. I had the Hush The Pedal, the new blue one with one knob and one footswitch, it was a bit of a tone sucker, but it got rid of the hiss noise.

The MXR is tonally transparent, and is so powerfull of a noise gate that, depending on where you use it, (in front of the amp, or in the loop), the level knob is always pretty low.
