Re: Carvin question???
I just demo'd one this weekend. The Legacy has great tone and a great clean channel. The gain is not enough for metal without using a pedal. I really liked it but I hate using overdrive pedals and I wish it had 3 channels. It is fairly expensive too but then again, everything attached to Vai is overpriced.

Re: Carvin question???
I tried a Legacy a while back, and really didn't care much for it at all. Just seemed kinda mooshy and blah overall. It's kinda like I'd always expected...seemed, if you wanted to do a Vai cover, it'd be great, but probably not good for much else, without a lot of other gizmos to change the sound. The other Carvin amp I tried at the time sounded much better for metal, to my ears...much crisper and clearer. It was one of the silver-faced ones, I think...I forget what the model was.
Back a few years ago, a friend of mine was looking into them. He played Vai stuff, but also liked to play Metallica. I told him my theory, that the Legacy would probably nail Vai's sound for him, but doubted it would get anywhere near Metallica. He got a Legacy head anyway, and pretty quickly called me asking how he could dial in more of a Metallica sound. We went through the ropes on it, and it never got close, to either my ears hearing it over the phone, or to him, there playing it.

Re: Carvin question???
The amp you tried was probably the MTS3200. It is a killer head with tones of gain and the best clean channel I have ever heard. Carvin clains it has violin type sustain. They are right. It is very nice. Think of it as a severely hot rodded JCM800.

Re: Carvin question???
Where are you located?
Does it come with the footswitch?
Respond by PM'ing or emailing me considering we aren't in the classifieds section. I hate to do trade stuff out of the classifieds section. Thanks bro...
