Thanks man. Here's the whole layout...
2 Distorted tracks, one panned 100% left, one 100% right.
1 clean track using my neck pup (emg 60)which had stereo chorus for the clean break.
Guitar: Sl2h emg81/60, george L .225 cable, V-amp2,
sound blaster audigy 2 platinum ex sound card, cubasis vst, and creative wavelab.

On this clip i actually recorded the clean break before anything else. Then went back and dubbed in both distorted guitar tracks. This was all done at 24 bit recording, but then mixed down to 16 bit in creative wavelab wich is just a simple editing program I used to trim the edges off and convert it to an mp3 quickly. There was no eq'ing or effects to the guitars once in my pc. Just volume adjustments for each of the tracks. I hope this answers yer question, if not lemme know.

So you recorded direct midi from your V-amp into your computer?..if so, what did you use as a midi sync device, the sound card?

I'm not to familar with the software/hardware.. so bear with me as I am just starting into midi into computer and transfering digital recording from a outside source into software for mixdown.
It seems alot easier just to go direct midi from -amp into computer and finish the rest around teh tracks.. time consuming, but still.. one less process where yu would not have to tranasfer from a digital recorder.

I'm not sure if this is a finished product, but may I also say.. I think it would be cool to consider adding a rather haunting simple melody in octives over the rhythm section.. not sure if that would work as it is moving pretty quick. There's alot going on already and it's moving/starting/stopping.. I just thought it might be a cool contrast over such a driving track in some sections.

I used the left and right 1/4 outputs from the v-amp2 into a stereo Y-cable, which connected to the 1/4 stereo input on my soundcards external input box. No midi involved.
The Cubasis vst is a multi-track recording program. All I did was pretty simple. I imported the mp3 a guy made of the drum clip onto a single stereo track in cubasis. Then overdubbed some guitar onto other tracks, adjusted the levels a bit, then converted the whole thing into one mp3.
The two clips i posted were just "replies" i made to a thread on harmony central where several people recorded over the same drum clip.
I'll probably use a couple ideas i had in both of those clips in future songs for my band, so theyre pretty unfinished [img]images/icons/smile.gif[/img]

It should achive the same results it seems since your right and left is mixed into one cable anyway.

This all great info, cause I'm in computers applied to music class. We learned recording with midi not too long ago and now we're doing audio. We're using pro tools M-Boxes, which is way cool. However, I'd rather be using a host based system than a hardware based system like the M-Box, since that's what I'm probably going to buy.

For Our final in that class class we have to record an audio piece and perform it to the class. I'm planning on recording a death metal tune I'm writting. I'll record my guitars and vocals as straight audio, but record my drums and bass as midi before converting it to audio. It will probably sound like glorious crap, but I'll love it.

yup, pretty much. Except for the clean break wich used a stereo chorus/delay. That was one track that used both right and left.

This recording idea is so simple yet sounds soo good, for demos and stuff, why didn't I know it was this easy? Now how can I record like this if I don't have a vamp or pod? I'd like to use an amp with 2 mics, so this means I need an mbox right?

Hey Spiral Architect, your name rocks! Spiral Architect is an awesome band. A lot of metal heads don't seem to think so, but I they're great. I'm a big technical/prog. metal head, so any band of musicians that can play like that pretty much has my praise.
