  • bvvvvvvvvvv!! of my amp

    Hey,
The louder I turn up my amp, the louder this big bvvvvvvv sound gets. It's like the flow of power through the tubes is just sounding through the speakers, and I was curious if a hush would stop the noise, or if it's something else. I don't have super microphonics, or any problems like that...just this big bvvvvvv noise. Even with the guitar volume off, the only time it goes away is if the stand by is on. Any ideas?

    Cheers,
    Nick

Maybe your ap is close to TV or Refrigirator.
Or Maybe your pedals if you use.

Nope, no TVs or refridgerators near my amp...and I have no pedals, just guitar, cable to the amp.

      Cheers,

          check:

cables, guitar wiring, are there neon lights in the room?, speaker cable, speakers.

if all that passes, take it to a reputable technichian and have him check it out. might need a bias adjustment or new tubes, or a blow resistor somewhere inside.

Check to make sure your amp is grounded. Also check to see if it happens when you plug into a different electrical circut. There is an outlet in my studio that makes amps buzz like hell, if you plug into the outlet on the next wall, eveerything is fine.

using instrument cables as speaker cables is a bad idea in general, can easily result in a fried amp.

(much much more power going through speaker cables than through an instrument cable)

don't use inst. cable for spk. cable!!!!!!!!!

get good thick speaker (unshielded) cable.

                  Re: bvvvvvvvvvv!! of my amp

                  Thanks.

I'm sure of the guitar wiring, so that's okay.

I don't have very high-grade cables...some cheap Rapco, and Harmony or something like that. So I was planning to get Monster cables, seeing as cables are a weakness in my system.

No neon lights are in the room, just regular bulbs.

I also don't have actual "speaker" cables, like those 12 guage or low guage speaker cables that are proper for that application, I just use regular instrument cables. Which is also why I need to get monster cables.

The speakers are good, they're Celestion V30's, and I'm not saying they're good just because they're Celestion, I know they're in good shape and that all the speaker components are good.

So, I suppose, until I get new cables, and I find out if the sound goes away or not, that's as far as I can get. All my amps should be fine, though...I just had the preamp serviced...and I've never had trouble with the power amp.

                  Thanks!!
                  Cheers,
                  Nick
