Hello all! I have a Jackson warrior mg, and i mounted emgs 81(b) and 85(n). A plug it into a marshal jmp-1, a 2x50 tube power amp, and then into 2x12 with celestion vintage 30 speakers. I can`t make my sound sound bright!! Even with presence and treble on max... Is there a brighter pickup than my 81? I always get the sond like having the switch on the middle position. The pickupus are wired properly! Help please!!! Tnx!

Re: I need brighter pickupis!!!
Was the guitar's sound bright with the original or other pickups in it, before putting the EMGs in it?
If it was bright before and now it's dark with the EMGs, then it's probably something to do with your EMGs, wiring, or battery.
If it wasn't bright before, and it's not bright now, it might just be the guitar itself. I had an import guitar before that was just dead and flat sounding, with original pickups...then with EMGs as well. Cheap wood, cheap hardware, bad manufacturing...sadly, it ended up in the "get what ya pay for" box. I hope this isn't the case for your guitar.

They sound brighter and a lot of gain.
I've got two chrome EMG 81s in my mahogany Hamer, and they sound a little warmer than other guitars I've heard with them, but it's still got a fairly bright treble sound even in the mahogany.I feel my soul go cold... only the dead are smiling.

Yes Tone zone sounds brighter(I am not sayint it is than EMGs).It depends on what guitar or amp setting you have there but it sounds much brighter than other pickups I use.
It also has huge bass too.
Darker? I don't think so.
If so, it is your opinion, just like mine.

I recommend people to go to harmony Central Review page and check what people think of these pickups.

Well, if you also look at DiMarzio's tone chart online or in their catalog, it's got the treble as 5, the middle and bass at both 8.5, so it's definitely more focused in the mids and bass range, but I guess everyone hears something different. Re: I need brighter pickupis!!!
his guitar had emh hz stock on it. I can`t compare the sound, becouse i use different gear now. I will try a new battery, and a marshall power amp. If it doesent change i will try som equiliser, but hell! I think i did the wiring stuuf properly. I will take a pic of the wiring this weekend and put in in here. I must get some brighter sound. I like the distortion of the jmp-1 very much, so i would`t like to change it. I am building "the sound". I have a great pre, great power amp, great box + speakers. I only miss some effects, i think i`ll be going for the intellifex xl. But forst i mus get some more brightness!!! Tnx to all!

Re: I need brighter pickupis!!!
EMGs are pretty simple to hook up. If your volume and tone pots work properly, your switch switches between the pickups properly, and you're getting output, chances are the pickups are wired fine. Next step, sure, put in a new battery.
If it turns out your battery was fine, and that doesn't take care of the problem, then I'd suspect the guitar, like I said before. In that case, different pickups aren't necessarily going to give you great sound. At that point...
You could try an EQ, you could try a BBE, you could try a Behringer Ultrafex Pro (it can add a huge amount of high end). There are a number of ways to push those highs up, but I'm not convinced that just adding highs is going to get you the sound you want.
My guess is, no matter what you add, even if you add more highs into the mix, your guitar is holding you back. Adding in a bunch of highs will probably result in nasty, harsh highs added to muddy, blah lows and mids. If you are trying to build "the sound", meaning "great sound", you have to start out right. Garbage in, garbage out, yaknow? At this point, if the battery change doesn't fix it, keep the gear you have now and save up for a better guitar, and stick those EMGs in it. I know that's a hard thing to want to think about, but the other gear you have is decent enough, and if the pickups aren't the problem, as I suspect they aren't, the suspect is the guitar itself, and you'll never get the sound you want with a guitar that's a problem.

Re: I need brighter pickupis!!!
your problem could be that your highs and presence are turned up too high.
the mesa 20/20 poweramp has presence on it so you can turn down your preamp's highs/pres. and make it bolder and clearer and stick out in the mix more and still brighten it up through the power section.

Re: I need brighter pickupis!!!
I vote to check the pots to make sure you're using 25K (not 250K) on both volume and tone.

Re: I need brighter pickupis!!!
Also check to make sure your tone pot is wired correctly - and that you don't have it wired to permanently be 'on' sucking all the highs. Also, could be a bad battery, but when the batteries die in an EMG, it gets pretty fizzy/splattery sounding in a hurry. Could also be a bad cable.
