• Best neck humbucker for Classical/ Metal

I have a Jackson Kelly and am wondering what humbucker you all would recommend in the neck position for a good clean classical (acoustic guitar) sound.

I play metal though I select the neck pick up and change to clean channel when playing any fingerpicking stuff.

Is there a pick up that can provide a good classical sound as well as a good doom metal sound?

I am more interested in a good classical sound as I use the bridge for the heavy stuff.

The SD '59 is the best sounding neckpickup i've heard so far. Other pickups i like in the neck position are SD Jazz and Rio Grande Texas.

Duncan '59 or Jackson J50N.

What I meant to ask...was how does the Pearly Gates clean compare to the '59...I missed the edit time, though, sorry for this "double post" of sorts.

Cheers,

Re: Best neck humbucker for Classical/ Metal

I'm not real familiar with a regular Pearly Gates, but I've got a Pearly Gates Plus in the bridge of my Fender Double Fat Strat, with a '59 in the neck. Here's some info of the PG+ off Duncan's site.

"What's the difference between your Pearly Gates pickup and the Pearly Gates Plus on a Lone Star Strat®?
The Pearly Gates is rather different than the "Pearly Gates Plus" that is on the Lone Star StratTM. The Pearly Gates Plus is only available on that guitar and not made for retail sales. The main difference in these pickups is that a Pearly Gates has Alnico II magnets, while the Pearly Gates Plus has Alnico V magnets. Alnico V magnets tend to give a brighter, glassier tone, while Alnico II magnets tend to have a warmer, rounder, more mid-rangier tone. The closest pickup available in our regular line to a Pearly Gates Plus is a '59 Model with 4-conductor cable. The '59 is an Alnico V pickup with a wind very close to that of the Pearly Gates Plus. The '59 usually comes in single conductor cable, but it can be ordered with the 4-Conductor wiring option."

Which is a hotter pickup, the `59 or Jazz? Jack.

in duncan the JAZZ
in dimarzio PAF PRO or humbucker from hell.
the thing to look for in a neck pup when playing shred is almost a single coil clarity.
the HFH is like a single coil but is a full size bucker with the power of a PAF.
the paf pro and jazz are both real clear, articualte pups that allow the player to RIP on the neck pup without any mud.
any of these will be great!
