  • Volume increase from using cab?

Hi, I've got a marshall dsl 201 20 watt valve combo. I just used it in recording today, it soudned great, but the volume i think is just less than enough. Its only just loud enough at practice with drummer, other guitarist and bass and vocals, and i think it will be too quiet for gigs without mic'ing up. It has a 16ohm speaker output and what I want to know is can I use this with maybe a 2x12 at gigs to get it louder, and be heard easily? if so which one.
    cheers

The only way extra speakers will help loudness, is if your amp is putting out more power than what the original speakers can handle. More speakers will help sound distribution, say left and right side of the stage, or for more tonal qualities, but unless you need the extra speakers to be able to handle the output, no, extra speakers won't get you more volume.

    Cheers,
    Nick
