I wonder what kind of sounds this little preamp has.Have you ever tried one of this preamps? Is it similar to the Mark series?Does it have enough gain to play metal?

    Thanks in advance

    Re: Mesa Formula Pre

I haven't had the chance to play one, but my buddy Paul from the band Origin uses one and he loves it. So yeah it can do metal/death metal with no problem. But of course it all depends on your taste.

      Re: Mesa Formula Pre

well, i gave it a short try with a mesa 295, and it sounded like sh!t..........

the cleans where fantastic, but the distortion channel was uglyer than my mother sh!tting in a bathtub

but i read somewhere, that it is voiced totally different than any other amp. that means that your usual settings won't be no good on this preamp.

I am picking mine up today ( i have a good deal : my peavey 5150 head + 400 € for themesa 295 and the formula, i am gonna sell the formula and buy a rocktron voodu valve ! )
=> after that i'll telll you my opinion

uffff, yeah the origin guy uses the Formula doesnt he with a simulclass 2:90? Its very fat tone, awesome. Though the preamp itself wasnt very highly regarded on the hc.
        Cheers

well, i got this sucker !!!
          and i am now 100 % dure that i'll change preamp !
This thing is horrible. You can get some old metallica sounds out of it, but cheesh talk about muddy tone.....

=> what settings does Paul from Origin use ?
maybee his settings can convince me, that this isn't a piece of sh!t
