• Need to swap JCM 800 for small amp, suggestions?

At the moment im using a 50w JCM 800 combo... it sounds awesome even at just over 3 on the volume... which is too loud for my house!

Had it a year, recently circumstances have changed so im not alone at home anymore.. garage is full so cant play there... the amp is just TOO loud for me now

Any ideas on what to go for instead??? going to have to travel a bit to check amps so advice is welcomed off people who've used em before!!!

Probably have to go for a solid state.. but if it sounds good i dont care really (worked ok for Death n Pantera lol).

I play metal\rock\speed metal from Metallica to In FLames, to Maiden to Hammerfall to Less Than Jake to Thin Lizzy... i need a kinda 'all round' rock tone for lead\relatively crunchy rhythm.

Wont be gigging at all.

So far my ideas:

1)Laney TT20
2)Marshall AVT 20 or 50
3)Marshall MG50fx
4)Laney TF200 or 100

Effects i dont need really, single channel will do, looking to spend £200-400 either new or 2nd hand.

Just need a rockin small combo

Stay away from those Marshall AVT's. They are junk.

Yea i got an AVT50 and it isn't that great. The clean is actually pretty good, but the distortion channel stills sound very solid state, even though its got that valvestate stuff. Its pretty good for a practice amp though i guess.

Anything from Line 6 will work from the Spyder to the Flextone to the HD and the Vetta. They all sound great at any volume. That is the beauty of modeling.

I had an AVT50, and didn't really like it. The distortion channel wasn't all that great, even I tried a different tube in it. It was, shall I say, lacking?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">He can do a heck of alot better than a Bandit 1x12 when he wants to spend approx $400-$500 dollars. A Line 6 Spyder 3 is in that range new! So are some of the Flextones, some Hughes & Kettners, and some Carvins. The SX200 or SX300 would be nice. He can even go for an MTS3200 combo.
