phanthom power with 5 pin midi cable?

I was almost sure that you need a 7 pin cable to use phanthom power from youe pre-amp to power your midi footcontroller!

But in the manual it says that it is possible?

Anyone care to explain?

Simple - MIDI only uses three pins of the cable, so you can use the other two for power, provided the device you're powering is set up that way.

I phantom power my DMC Ground Control that way, from my Axess CFX4 - I just had Mario wire it so the DMC power supply plugs into the CFX, and goes out to the pedal.
