Re: Looking for a new amp

Like Mordor said, the Valvestates only have one 12AX7 preamp tube, and I think it's only for the distortion channel and not the clean channel.

It's great for playing at low volumes, but it also can get quite loud!!!! http://www.mesaboogie.com/Product_In.../F-series.html
Joe!...NO SHIT!....I just bought one...and as a matter of fact I just got done unpacking it! I'm going to wait until it warms up a little before I plug in to it and rip.
I already have plans on changing the Celestion V30 with a Naylor SD50 on order. Just like in my 4x12.

Thanks for the reveiw..I just came here looking for someone else that has one of these...as I've never gotten the chance to try one yet. Sounds like I won't be disappointed then!

I've heard a ton of great things about the Mesa F-30, but the one negative comment is that it doesn't handle metal well. Is this true? I heard that a Randall Warhead or Peavey XXX is the way to go if you want thick, solid metal chunk.

Yeah that peavey triple x looks cool, but that one is pretty....exxxspensive, right?

Not true at all. It does all styles well. I've only got the gain at like 2:30- 3:00 and think it's plenty. If you really need more over-the-top gain, an overdrive pedal in front will give you what you need, but, like I said, I feel it's got plenty! To quote Mesa/Boogie on the F series... "Footswitching to Contour infuses a double dose of steroids and pumps up the gain to fiery proportions producing one of the most hellacious crunch sounds around. This grinding wall of gain was inspired by our mighty Dual Rectifier and creates a unique and luscious harmonic spread slightly different, but every bit as menacing as the Recto." Marshall Valvestate 8240, with chorus
                    http://www.gbg.bonet.se/famhellstrom...l/Marshall.htm

Or can i get something better in the same price range?
The 8240 is actually what my other amp is! I've had it new since it came out around '92. It's down in my basement and still going strong, a very cool amp. The only thing I don't like is that the OD1/OD2 are not footswitchable and you have to use the little push buttons on the amp for that. I wish the reverb was footswitchable, because I only use it on the clean channel. I believe there was an updated version that might have had dual reverb and the OD section was footswitchable. I think it was the V265R, if I recall correctly.

Yeah, I liked the 8240 too
But I'll check that v265r out! thanks man

Tell me......are those tube amps or not?

any tube amp is gonna cost ya abit of cash man , but compared to other stuff they aren't that bad in price . Dave [the other guitarist in my band] has the XXX Head going through a behringer stereo cab and it sounds ten times nicer and heavier than any boogie I've ever played or any marshall ! the combo sounds awesome as well , I played on it for 1 hour one time and for a combo it sounds brutal and fat ! try it out and see if ya like it , very good amp ! //Steve
