• receiving radio and tv through guitaramp

this is driving me insane
ive had a 5150combo for a while now, something like 6 months..and all of a sudden a few days ago i got the sportnews out of it
today i recognised what channel it is and its a TV channel i didnt know my guitaramp could pick up tv signals...
its really loud on the lead channel, just normal radio volume...if i keep the guitar still its really annoying.
the problem occurs with 2 guitars...when i roll back the volume on the guitar it goes away...

any help??

Just a tip that could help. Use aluminium foil (don't know if that's the right word in english, the stuff you use for barbeque to protect your food from the flames) and wrap it around your power cord. A friend of mine had this problem some years ago with his combo amp and used the alu foil around the power cord for shielding and the radio signals went away.
Maybe this helps.

Re: receiving radio and tv through guitaramp

It has nothing to do with shielding and everything to do with GAIN. An amplifier is just that, an AMPLIFIER. The bits and pieces inside aren't that far removed from a radio, and the more gain you pile on it them more likely it is to pick up radio stations. Some easy solutions are using less gain and moving your amp. Another option is to coat your practice room with a thin coat of lead, although this might kill you in a few months. Or.. wrap the foil around your head. Then all those "alien voices" will stop talking to you.

It sounds like a typical shielding problem.

Are you sure it's the amp, not the guitar?

Does the radio leak through if the guitar is unplugged? Try changing the cord.

Try: plugging in to a different outlet, a different part of the house. Try it at a friends house. Try even a different power cord.

Sometimes using a high quality AC noise/surge suppressor or power conditioner will cure RF noise.

yeah i'm a affraid its the amp....ive tried with 2 guitars and 3 chords and it doesnt go away...but with no guitar plugged in i dont get the radio out of it...
i will try another poweroutlet...but what i dont understand is; if ive played for 6 months without a problem, and i have changed nothing, how could this problem occur?

I had this happen to me last month. I was picking up Cuban radio clear as a bell when using a Vox Tonelab.

Couldnt do anything about it, so I returned it.

I have has similar issue before, as I live right on the water, where radio signals are strongest, but nothing quite this bad.

I've had the same thing happen when I plug a friends Dot 335 through my Marshall. Instead of TV signals I get my neighbors cordless phone. I tried with my guitars, which are all solid bodies, but it doesn't do it with them.

I used to get a black gospel radio station. That's how I developed my groove!
