  • Yamaha SPX90 or 90II??

Which one's better? I know the 90 was the favorite studio effects unit for about 15 years or more all over the world, but don't recall if the II ever fully replaced the 90.

I'm not sure there's really that much difference between them. I seem to recall that the onboard sampler might be upgraded, but I don't think the FX are much different. But I'm no expert on these. I know that Yamaha also came out with an SPX-100 version, and that seemed much the same as the 90 when I used it years ago.

I don't think you can go wrong, either way. I have a tabletop version of the SPX-90 called the REX-50, which I bought in the late '80s and still use in mixdowns for the awesome reverbs, which might not be as good as those in the high dollar Lexicons, but more than good enough for my needs.
