• Carvin Quad vs. Boogie Quad

Hey Guys,
I'm interested in the Carvin Quad preamp, but I have some reservations about it.
I used to have a Boogie Quad and never could get enough gain out of it to please me, I was wondering if the Carvin has more gain or is it too close to the Boogie Quad tone??

It seemed to me like when I had my Boogie Quad, I had to use a PEQ with it to really get any good tone out of it at all, does the Carvin suffer from this same need as well?

Jim, you are talking to the Quad expert now.

Channel 1 Fender crystal clean. Outstanding for clean with mucho clarity and headroom
Channel 2 is basically te same as channel 1 with more gain control
Channel 3 is unmodded Marshall JCM800 all the way. Lots of gain but not over the top. Great for classic rock or palm muted nu-metal.
Channel 4 is everything that a Soldano/modded Marshall, Mesa dimed out could ever be. With stock groove tubes it had more gain on 5-6 then a 1st generation Mesa Dual Recto on 10. The long tailed reverb was outstanding and 5 effects loops are always useful along with channel memory, channel cloning, built in switchable EQ etc... I used the Quad X with a Peavey sixty/sixty for a while and also with a Carvin T-100. It is a great preamp.
