• Can anyone help me achieve this sound?

Hey guys. I'm trying to get a In Flames type sound out of my 5150. I recently bought one of these MXR 10 band EQ's, but I'm like tone deaf. I was wondering if any of you could help me achieve this tone or something similar? Thanks in advance.

What amp settings are you using now? What is your tone lacking? I've never really listen to In Flames but I've had people tell me that my modified 5150's get that type tone. I have a bunch of different type clips in you wanna hear them.

This are the settings I'm using (keep in mind I also have the EQ to give it more boost)

Pregain - 8
Low-5
Mid-2
High-6
Resonance-6
Presence-7

tune down to C.

pregain- 6
bass- 6
mids- 4.5- 5
treble- 5-6
post gain- 5!
presence- I don't remember.

I could be way off. Teh 5150 I've messed with is 800 miles away. *sniffle* I don't recall needing the MXR 10 band EQ at all, for the in flames tone. But I know we're using it now.

the secret to the 5150 is playing it fucking loud. screw your neighbors. at low volumes the 5150 is buzzy and shitty..(though the pedal seems to fix that a little bit..at lower volumes, but has to be re-eq'd once you turn it up again.)

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I'm no expert but lower your pregain to around 5.5 - 6 for starters, I find everything just gets really fuzzy above 6. Maybe bring up the mids a bit to, but I dunno, I can't seem to find that In Flames tone either.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I would try this without the EQ in the loop

pregain 5
low 5
mid 6
treble 4
post 4
resonance 3
presence 3

Their stuff has a lot of clarity that your not gonna get out of a 5150 with the pregain up that high. The pre on 8 is very saturated and muddy especially with no mids to cut thru and the resonance up that high. That's just my opinion.

Thanks for the replies guys. I don't seem to be nailing that tone. My amp sounds pretty much gainless. Changing the subject real quick....Jerry, those sound clips are awesome. What did you use for the Metallica 5150 clip?

Thanks! The Metallica clip is my modified 5150. It has the bias mod and I lowered the preamp gain. It still has tons of gain but now it has more clarity and less saturation.
