• Ouch! My ears.

Note: I know I am an idiot, so don't bother telling me that.

Situation: I rearranged my room yesterday and couldn't hook up my gear where I needed it to. So I got a power strip and put my combo amp, g-major, and floorboard on it. Note: I played this huge show in the auditorium on my school with everyone on a powerswitch, it was fine.

So I go to turn on my amp, and then my g-major. There is this HUGE HUGE HUGE high pitched loud squeal out of my amp. (The volume was not high at all) It hurt my ears, they feel weird now. It was really really like the worst pinch harmonic you could ever hear type of thing.

So, what is going on? I am pretty sure I should get a power coniditioner. What that cure this? I need something, because I am too scared to turn on my amp now.

Also, is leaving your amp plugged in bad? I don't see why if you have in on an external switch that breaks the curcuit outside the amp itself.

PLEASE HELP ME!

PS: If I do need a power conditioner, which one should I get.

I don't know about your feedback problem, but about wondering if you can leave your amp plugged in...
I keep mine plugged in ALL of the time. When I'm done with it I turn it off. I figure that's why thy put an on and off switch on them. Seriously ...mine is always plugged in and ready to go, and I've never had any problems.

Re: Ouch! My ears.

I leave my pre-amp and power amps turned on, and use the power bar as my on/off switch (although I use the stand-by on the power amp).

I don't think your power arrangement is the problem. You either have something wrong in your set-up, or you have a microphonic tube in your amp (could happen if you move your amp with hot tubes I think).

I'd look at those things before going to the power conditioner (although I would recommend that too)

Ok, I turned it on with the volume on the G-major all the way down, and there was no noise.

Interesting note: I looked at the meter next to the volume that shows like the input level, and it shoots up more than it goes with the hardest picking at that volume on my amp. Is it time to contact TC Electronics?

Re: Ouch! My ears.

Seeing as how you just moved stuff around in your room, chech to make sure you didn't shake something loose, or hook something up wrong or create a bad connection in one of your cables.

What all do you use in your equipment setup? A power conditioner is a good thing to have any way you slice it.

Ultimate Chorus DSP
Ground Control

Re: Ouch! My ears.

Re-check every connection you've made. sounds like that usually come from something being plugged in a wrong place.

it is all good, I did not unplug anything, but I did check all connections. I wonder what it is, besides a crap amp. Oh well, I can get around the problem now, so it's all cool.

Is it a tube amp? I'd recommend you check your tubes. I had a problem similar like yours, turned out in the end I just needed new tubes.
