  • Good metal cab?

Ok, so I'm gonna get a Peavey XXX a several months down the line.

So, I'm trying to figure out what a good cab and speakers are?

I play metal, and punk mostly.

ok so you guys also would recommend vintage 30 speakers, right?
            straight or angled cab?
any preferences for the box-brand; are engls compareable to mesas?
i´m also just looking for a new cab.

to me the best is a marshall valvestate 4x12 loaded with EVM-12L speakers. the compact size of the cabinet along with the 800 watt handling capability keeps everything really tight.

                        Re: Good metal cab?

I'm with Jerry on the Celestion G12T75 speakers, for my thrash metal sound, anyway. The Vintage 30s just don't do anything for me, personally.

If you want a more nu-metal kinda sound, the V30 are definitely the standard. But if you're looking for any kind of scooped-mids thrashy stuff, I'd stick with the G12T75.

i'd go with the 75s too, much clearer, crunchier sound, not as fizzy, total thrash. Why not build your own cab with celestions, brand name cabs are way over priced.

If you can get them, Celestion G12K85s are great for metal. Peavey used them in the Butcher 4 x 12 cabinet.
