• Tube / Valve prices and recommendations

I am about to change all the tubes/valves in my Peavey Classic 50/50 power amp and my ENGL E530 preamp. So, that's a lot of EL84's, a couple of ecc81's and some ecc83's. I was thinking going with the JJ valves and ordering from http://www.eurotubes.com/

I would appreciate any suggestions, recommendations, praises you guys may have. Like where to buy, which brand you have had good experiences with, who's got the best prices... For starters, have you had any experinces with the afore mentioned eurotubes shop?

I know selecting valves is about personal preferences and taste, but i'll listen to what you have to say

I would also take a look at Dougs tubes.
I personally dislike JJs, but that's just me. Very midrangy, not nice in the SLO.

Chuck, i searched the net but can't find anything about Doughs tubes... could you reveal a link?

Me don't like midrangy sound. The JJ ecc83s actually receives good reviews, also regarding its midrange - described as well balanced. The JJ EL84 is another talk. Under high gain it goes middly they say. Hmmmm... but they're cheap!

I disliked the 12AX7 JJs in my Classic..they were a touch too harsh for my tastes. I went with some NOS JAN Phillips 12AX7s and I was completely happy. I also prefered the EI EL84s but have heard that they have had consistency problems.

I buy all my tubes from Lord Valve..

Dougs Tubes

I'm a big fan of the Chinese 12AX7s.

Oh edgar, are you using a Classic 50/50 power amp or maybe a combo?

BTW the link http://lord-valve.freeyellow.com/ doesn't work or the site is down at the moment.
