  • Peavey TT Spec 212 II vs. XXL 212 Combo

I'm a noob and I'm looking at getting an amp. While I'd love to get a full tube amp like the Triple XXX, I'm sure a solid state would be a better fit for me. I really don't know too much about amps though...

What is the "real" difference between Peavey's TransTube Special 212 II and their XXL 212 Combo? The XXL looks like the XXX and has different levels of output (25W, 50W, 100W) and it appears like they have "different" speakers (I've heard of the Sheffield reliabilty). After that, it seems a crapshoot to my untrained eyes.

Any and all feedback would be a great help. Thanks.

    P.S. - I'm a proud owner of a Godin Exit 22 and a BOSS ME-50 - trying to learn both.

The XXL has digital reverb...other than that, cosmetics, maybe speakers.

I have a mid `90s Special 212 with Sheffield speakers, and if I were in the market for a new solidstate amp, I'd probably go with the XXL. The Special has been a great amp for me, but based on the XXL's specs, it appears to be more versatile.
