How is the combo compared to the head? Do they pretty much sound the same? I could get a clean tone through the combo, with the gain on 4, up until about volume 3. I couldn't on the head. I have never played the combo turned up past 3, so I wasn't sure if the distortion on it was noticeably different than the head. I was asking because I am looking at a new amp (new for me), and I only have about $600. I play metal, so I know the 5150 can get the job done. Thanks. [img]graemlins/band.gif[/img]

5150 combo is your best bet. i fuckin love the thing. sounds just like my 5150 head, cept it even has reverb!! the peavey speakers that it comes with sound damn good too. only problem is, ITS HEAVY AS SHIT!

You will love it. It is really friggin heavy though. The ONLY reason I sold mine was because of the weight. It was a tone monster. Crappy clean channel but I didn't really need the clean.

The 5150 combo doesn't sound like the head. They are quite a bit different. I have a bunch of info on my page about the differences. I personally hate the combo, but that's me. If you've played the combo and like it that's cool, but if you've played the head don't expect it to sound the same.

the COMBO(UNMODDED) along with a 4x12 marshall cab loaded with greenies or Gh's is my favorite of the 5150's.makes ya wonder why EVH never tried it himself,sounds more old school halen than him playing on the regular head with a shefield loaded 5150 cab??????

IMHO I thought the combo was cool, much better clean tone (because they are biased hotter).
However when it comes to balls out destruction, it doesn't come close to the head. Unless you drop that heavy fucker on your foot or something [img]graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]
And I am just a sucker for a 5150 halftack [img]graemlins/drool2.gif[/img] I love mine!
I sold my combo and have 2 heads, one runs into a 212MS PV cab and its as close to a combo as I will friggin' get [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img]Comment
