• adventures in amp building - check this out

Check out the first four clips...

    http://members.cox.net/twisteramps/6.html

Basically, I put a relay into my amp and set up a circuit to give it a rhythm mode. You dial in your lead volume, then use the rhythm control to pull it back to where you want it. Then footswitch it back and forth. Yes, it uses a relay, and all the clips above were done 'one take'. It changes 'channels' really quickly and also without any pops. I did it so I could use the amp (now called the 'Corsair') for jams and gigs and not have to bring any overdrive pedals. Just the amp and a footswitch. Can't wait to test it out this weekend with my band.

Sounds very good! You can tell by its sound it's a tube amp. Great job!

Dang, Pete....Everything you build and play sounds fabulous.

Any plans on making a combo in the near future (even though I know you aren't that fond of 'em)?

Hey Fritz, thanks! My big complaint about combos is that most of em sound like crap for heavily distorted guitar, since they are open back.

Having said that, the Corsair (amp in the clips) sounds great through an open back cab, but it's not a real high gain monster either.

Since I am a one man amp-makin' band, I'd probably do it for a special order. To make one that sounded GOOD with a hard rock/metal high gain amp would be a challenge... one likely met by building a sealed cab and an open back chassis above it... heavy and big, but toneful.

The ZZ Top clip sounds pretty damn impressive.

I just went back and noticed, you used a pedal on that one. Still sounds good, but I originally thought it was all amp.

Very cool Pete! I'm particularly digging the blues clip as well.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Thanks. The pedal was used as a boost, for the solos only. The beginning and the rhythm parts were 'all amp'. It was one pass also.

Yeah, it sounded very fat, and organic. It really represented how that song should sound.
