(example: Marshall 4x12 cab with 30 watt celestions at 16ohm)

    3. What style/type of tone are you generally going for?

    A. 80's rock like RATT/Dokken/Van Halen?
    B. 80's metal like Megadeth / Testament, etc
    C. 70's vintage rock like Ted Nugent, etc
    D. Current rock (no solos) like Disturbed/ Linkin Park, P.O.D., Godsmack, etc
    E. 90's rock like Alice In Chains
    F. other (please elaborate)

Re: Calling out all SEASONED Soldano SLO100 users!!

I had a rackmount SLO. Here is some replies to your questions:
    1. The settings I used were:
    Pre- 7
    Bass- 9
    Mid-5
    Treble-3
    Presence-3
    Master-3

    2. I tried a bunch of cabs and ended up buying a Marshall 1960AX. I found the Greenbacks sounded best with the SLO.

    3. I used the amp in a band that played classic rock to 80's metal.

    4. My main guitar was a Gibson Explorer with a Dimarzio Super Distotion in the bridge and the stock neck pickup.

    5. I used Ruby preamp tubes and Sovtek power tubes.

Cool. I got a Rack SLO too. These are my settings. Crunch Channel is set and bright switch is on too. Master is on 4 and the Gain is on 10. I use a tubescreamer on top of this and it routes through my switcher so it is only in my signal chain when this channel is being used.Master Volume on 5 for lead channel Gain is at 6. Treble is at 3 Bass is at 7 Mids at 4 Presence 8. Mesa Boogie Cabs with Naylor 50's in them. 8 ohm loads. I sometimes run 2 Carvin 2x 12's with Emmenince (Spl???) 100watt speakers in them. Those I run at 16 ohms each. I have a bunch of guitars but like X2n's as my pickup choice. I use some pedals which are in a rack draw and a switcher too.... A Paramentric eq and a noise gate in the loop. As far as sounds.... I like the 80's metal thing... The Blues thing... and some of the nu-metal stuff. By adjusting the gain, the eq and the parametric eq I can cover a lot of ground with it.

        Tubes.... Power - Svets 6l6's Preamp - Chinese 12ax7's

Re: Calling out all SEASONED Soldano SLO100 users!!

            Ok, here's my story: I build my SLO clone 50w/100w and triode/pentode switchin', loadded with Fender(Sovtek) 12AX7 & 5881(6L6GC).
It was not a personal choice (no previous experience with brands neither), just the available ones here in Rosario(city)-Argentina(country).
I also made the output trany designed to hit power tubes hard!, so I use lead chanel vol at no further than 7.
I use custom re-wired(only one pair) shefields (more bass response) 5150 slant cab.
My axe is a EMG 60n/81b loadded USA Rhoads.
Don't know if it's this particular amp, but sounds a bit trebly, so I set bass 7, Mid 3, Treb 1 and pressence depending situation (soloing or riffing)
I´m towards megadeth riff sound & clasic metal cutting yet meaty soloing sound.
This setting gives me a fat, thick, cutting clear, round, no harsh sound.
Do anyone have experience with EL34 or KT88 instead 6L6GC in SLOs to compare them?

Re: Calling out all SEASONED Soldano SLO100 users!!

              1. Gain 6, Bass 9, Mids 7, Treble 3, Master 3-5, Presence 4-6 (last two get adjusted on a regular basis due to environment, venue, mood, etc.)

              2. 70's Marshall 4x12s with 65 W Celestions.

              3. I'm not trying to copy any style of tone. My requirements are excellent articulation for chording and single notes on the gain channel, control over dynamics from the guitar, and tight bass. I find that the SLO is very good at responding to the above so that the final tone is much more a product of the guitar and player than anything else...which is why I like it so much.

              4. I use a variety of guitars and none are really primary. They're all superstrats of some form, but have pickup setups from standard strat 3 singles to a couple of medium gain humbuckers - mostly Andersons, but Duncans and Dimarzios show up in a few of them.

              5. EH 12AX7s (new in there and considering other options) and Sylvania 6L6GCs.

-RSTITES- I was debating throwing in a couple of eh 12ax7's in mine. What do you and don't you like about them. I guess if you compared them to the stock sovteks that come with the SLO that would be a good base of comparison.

Re: Calling out all SEASONED Soldano SLO100 users!!

Sorry, I haven't tried Sovteks in the SLO. I don't have anything specific I don't like about the EH 12AX7s, but one of mine is a bit noisy so I've just been thinking about replacing it with something different. Before, my SLO had a mixed set of different tubes in it and it still sounded great.
