• How do you know when it's time to re-tube?

I realize you should probably replace your power tubes after no more than 3 years, but what if you don't know how old they are? I just bought a used amp, and other than some minor crackling when at idle, it sounds great.

The amp doesn't feedback, even at high (VERY HIGH) volumes. So how do I know if I would benefit significantly from new tubes?

By buying some and trying them. If there's no difference, you now have a great set of spares, something you should have anyhoo!

Jeez Chuck. I knew someone would give me that answer, I just didn't expect it so soon.

Seriously, thanks for the answer Chuck. That is exactly what I will do. Besides, it has Sovteks in it, and I'd like to try some JJs because I've heard they have more gain than the Sovteks.
