• how long do batteries last in a guitar with active

i was wondering how long the 9 volt battery in a guitar with an active preamp is supposed to last??? i just got my usa rhoads and 2 batteries have died in it in about a week??? i mean the battery that was in it was probably old to begin with but i replaced it and now this one is dead???? my rr3 has 2 active emg 81's and ive had the same battery in there for over a year. i dont leave the thing plugged in or anything. i dont even know what kind of preamp it in my usa???? i'll try to borrow my drummers digital cam and take picks of the insides soon, so i can find out what kind of preamp it is. i think its a gain boost but it might be a mid boost of some kind??? when you turn the control all the way up it sounds fatter and has more sustain. dont know what it is though???

Sounds like a midboost. Those things can eat batteries fairly quickly, from what I remember. Not sure they're supposed to die as quick as yours, though... at least my old Model 6 didn't. Is it original with the guitar? If not, it might not have a stereo input jack and that'll drain the batteries quicker.

Aside from anything else I'd check if it's wired properly. Maybe it's in the 'always on' option, and puts a constant drain on the battery.

remember you'll burn through a batt real quick if you leave it plugged in.

He said he doesn't leave it plugged in. It may be a regular jack that's draining the battery instead of a stereo jack that cuts the power off as soon as the plug is pulled out.

Sometimes batteries are just bad, or old. Throw a second set in there. Don't use batteries you bought with the ones that just died, buy some fresh ones, preferably a different brand.

Ya got to identify before ya can rectify.

my preamp only has 1 9volt battery. i opened her up and looked inside looks like hell inside, wires are spliced together covered in electrical tape. the only thing i found out about the preamp is that it says jackson electronics on it. are there any numbers on it to identify what kind of preamp it is??? i put a new battery in her and played her all week since ive been off for a week and she hasnt died yet, so maybe it was the battery i had in her??? i might have her rewired??? i love this guitar

I think you should have the wiring checked.
The EMGs I used to have in my Les Pauls lasted for ages with the same battery. I didn't have a booster of any kind installed though...
