• An advice PLEASE - what should I buy ?

Hey guys !

Please help me with an advice: what’s the best passive bridge pickup for progressive, neo-classic metal (dream theatre, symphony x, etc etc) in your opinion and why of course. Clarity when playing fast solos and chords WITH distortion...that’s what i need
:-) So to sum up alot of punch&clarity with dist.

Thanks a bunch !

I really dig the DiMarzio Super Distortion or X2N.
Mike Romeo of Symphony X uses the X2N with a Tone Zone in the neck.

Well, these 2 in the top of my list as well, but:

X2N – some say it lacks clarity, and I need that (although I need a lot of punch with dist. as well, symph. X sounds amazing, and Chuck from Death did play some very technical music)
Tone Zone – I hear it has to much bass for a neck pickup.
Toejam, any opinions on that if you’ve used them ?

Any other ideas guys ?

The Tone Zone is a pretty bassy and low midrange sounding pickup, I had one in a Dinky I sold not long ago, and I had it tuned down to D, but it still had very good clarity. It might be a little overpowering in the neck, and personally I wouldn't use it there, as I like brighter neck pups anyway. The X2N I used for years in my old Kramer and loved it, thought it had plenty of clarity and was pretty well balanced. Then I put it in my Charvel Model 5A and thought it was too bright. The X2N then went into my Warrior with a Super 2 in the neck (the Super 2 is also an awesome pickup, same power as the Super D, just more treble), and it sounded awesome again.
