Here are some examples of what I would recommmend as good interfaces with mic preamps built in:

Digidesign digi002 Rack ($1200)(4 mic preamps)

    MOTU 896HD ($1200)(8 mic preamps)

    MOTU 828mkII ($700)(2 mic preamps)

Don't let the guys scare you its not nearly as difficult as it can be really. You do need to elborate a bit more on what you trying to achive and your budget. If you are wanting to do good quality demos and record stuff to post on the web you can do so relativly cheap given you already have a PC that can handle it. Here is wat I have and it works great, easy to us and cheap.

Guitar Tracks Pro (32 Tracks digital)

      M-Audio Auduophile 2496
      http://m-audio.com/index.php?do=prod...3fa8b83343bfb8
      Johnson J-Station (like POD)

ART Studio V3 Tube Mic Pre-Amp
      http://artproaudio.com/products.asp?id=58&cat=1&type=79

I haven't received the mic pre amp yet so I can't comment on it but I bought so I can record my JCM800 2203 and mic my 4x12.

You can get some great sounds and it is pretty simple to use.

Have fun, once you do make a change you wonder why it took you so long to do it. Most PC have way more horsepower than recording hardware. If you get the right application for it you can do some great stuff for a god price.

Sorry to hi-jack the thread, but I'd steer clear of The Creative Audigy soundcard. I have the Audigy Platinum original and it blankets the sound after the a/d converters. I don't know if the 2nd version improved this, but I think the M-Audio 2496 is more suited for recording music, than any Creative soundcard for the money.
