• Tube Mic Pre-amps

Can anyone recommend a good low priced tube mic pre-amp? I know there are a bunch and I'm not looking for a $3000 studio version, just something to use to recording at home to my PC. I've been using a J-Station and getting tired of it. I want to mic my 4x12 cab and use my 2203 when I can and get some pure JCM 800 tone down.

    thanks

    art tube mp

    presonus blue tube. tube mp.

    both around 100 bucks.

if you want to spead about 500 there is a really nice preamp called "the really nice preamp". hehheh. you can check out reviews for it at harmony central. but it is not tube, but it will sound better than both the pre's mentioned above.

Those low end tube pre's are really just sort of a gimmick. Doesn't mean they don't sound ok for mere mortals like me, but consider just getting a Mackie mixer (like the 1202 VLZ Pro) - the pre's on it are top notch, plus you've got a mixer.

I've used one the Art's, some Studio Projects VTB-1's, and lots of different Joe Meek gear, and a Mackie 1402 VLZ Pro. The mackie sounded cleanest, but I had to sell it. I still have and use one of the Joe Meeks: the VC3. I love it. Clean when I want it, optical compression and Q when I want.

Oh, and I swear by my JOHNSON, too! J-Station users, unite!
