Re: dimarzio

If you want lots of highs and less lows, go for a Super 2. It's got the same power as the Super D, just more treble. Personally, I'm a big fan of the Super D and think it's got a nice balanced sound across all frequencies, and I love the Super 2 as a neck pickup. I've never tried it as a bridge pup, but it might be what you're looking for. VitaminG has a Super 2 in the bridge of one of his guitars, maybe he can chime in about that one. Check out www.dimarzio.com and look at the tone chart for their pickups.

I'd also suggest at least looking at the specs for the Super 3. That pickup was in the Fender HM Strat (an '80's classic, IMHO) and I think it might be close to what you are looking for.

Oh dude, super-d all the way! It seems our musical tastes are identical. In fact, i just had a super distortion and PAF pro put in my DK-1. I play shred guitar and especially children of bodom and other heaver/shreddy stuff. It does the job real nice. I play through a blue voodoo head and and marshall 1960 cab. If you want to replicate the Children of Bodom sound, this is great because- on my amp at least- i can get the mids balanced through it perfectly, becuase as you probably know, alexi laiho really cranks the mids up high. This handles that real nice, and if you feel the need, punch in some real tight bass too. What guitar are you going to drop it into? what kind of amp do you play through?

wow mattdowney and sixstringsuicide i must say we have VERY SIMILAR music taste!!! do you have any clips of your superd playing COB?

Super D
Treb 5.5
Mid 7
Bass 8

Super 2
Treb 7.5
Mid 6
Bass 5

Super 3
Treb 5
Mid 8
Bass 6.5

i guess it depends if you want a hightreb, high bass or high mid?

hey thanks for the imput guys. imm puting it into my homemade rhoads. i play straight into a randall RG75, and sometimes through a crybaby. i might also get a seymour duncan JB/Jazz. but imm leaning towards the super distortion/PAF pro. does the super dist have alot of highs? imm pretty sure imm getting the dimarzio setup but i want to know a little more about the sound of the super distortion.

thanks matt

If you like a lot of highs and are into metal I'd say go for the X2N.

I have a Super 2(n) / Super 3(b) combo & it's great for me but the Super 3 does not have the high end. I prefer that though.

Like I said, I think the SD is pretty well balanced and the highs are not too bad. The Super 2 has more highs. Then again, Sully said he thought the regular SD had too much high end. Greg Crowe is also a big fan of the SD and I believe that's his favorite pickup.
Jimmy posted the tone chart above, so that should help a little.
