  • Running a preamp into a head

Hey guys,if anyone has experience with this I would appreciate some advice.I just ordered a Powerball from Derek B.I have a few preamps that I want to hold onto(Kasha)because I love their tone and are hard to come by.I understand there is a way to bypass a heads pre by using the effects loop. Can someone explain this to me?I am assuming it would be preamp out to powerball effects return.I would also love to hear opinions from people who tried this, does it sound as good as a dedicated poweramp?I am not looking to do this regularly, just when I miss those certain tones and want to play around. Thanks for any help.

Use the return of the FX loop for the output of your preamp... the return of the FX loop is input to the power amp. If you have mixers for the FX loop (ala Mesa Rectos)turn it to 100%.

Yeah, you and the other guy are right. I used a preamp into the back of a modded 2204 and it sounded great. I dont know about the powerball but im pretty sure it will sound good.

Also remember that the presence control for the channel will be active.
