Re: Cables

I use Planet Waves and I've never had a problem out of them. Plus I use some 10 or 15 year old store branded cables that seem to never die.

Re: Cables

For instrument cables I like the Monster JAZZ cables, they warm up and round the tone a bit....never tried the George L's

Re: Cables

I use George L's for all connections in my pedal board. I've used George L's in the past for my guitar to pedalboard to amp connections & had problems with durability....maybe due to the thinner cable....maybe due to the do it yourself connectors.
I love the sound of the Monster cables, but I've had some problems with them too.
The past year or so I've been using Planet Waves cables with no problems what so ever (that's rare for me). They sound damn close to the Monster cables too.

I ordered some evidence audio lyric to wire my new rack. If it sounds as good as it costs, I should be in for quite some tone

I'm using Monsters right now but will eventually switch to Goerge L's.

Re: Cables

I use monster and George Ls. The monster sucks and isn't worth the money, it is my second. The first failed. I like the George L but it is constantly in tangles.

I have had my rack wired with the same Monster per 500 cables for about 5 years and never had a problem.I have 3 of the 12 ft. long cords for the guitar and 1 went bad.So what! you take it back the the store and walk out with a brand new one.Whats better than that?I just make sure to have a backup, witch you should do anyway.

Well, the monsters are also noisy and they tangle like mad. So from my experience, they have a bad reputation for failing, the are noisy, and they tangle. Other than that there is nothing wrong with them. I would buy another if there were no other choices, but there are.

Which version of Gegorge L's does everyone use? The .155 or the .225? I need to upgrade my cables.

I hate Monster Cables! Every single cable I sell at work carries a lifetime warranty-that means, if it breaks, you return it and we give you a new one. Well, the only cables that EVER come back broken are Monster Cables-we carry Planet Waves, Mogami, Live Wires, Rapco, and Fender as well as Monster-and I've never seen any of the rest of them come back broken. We average about 2-3 returned Monster Cables a week-last week there was one returned every day for 4 days straight!

That's my experience too. I've never seen another cable die in "normal" conditions, but have seen several Monster Cables bite it over the years...a couple at very low stress gigs. They have a lifetime warranty, but that doesn't stop it from really being a pain when everything goes silent mid-song. Plus. they don't really sound any better than any decent cable out there and are pretty expensive. The George L's are very good sounding, but I hear more complaints about them tangling so they may not be the right choice for you. (Maybe the thicker ones are better about this.) My GL's are all short enough that it's not an issue.

Yknow I've been thinking, maybe these Rapco Roadhogs we have at work will be good. They're thicker than most cables and have gold on the connectors like Mogami, plus they're like $15 for 18.5 feet. They seem solid enough to me!

Before this thread I've heard nothing but extremely positive things about Monster Cables.

I currently use a Monster Cable Prolink Studio Pro 1000 Speaker Cable with my half-stack and I have never had a problem with it and the difference that it has made in my tone has justified (at least to me) the money that I spent on it.

So EXACTLY what cables have you guys had problems with? Are we talking 1000 series stuff or more like 100 series stuff?
Thanks.

I'd venture it is the 500 stuff that is the troubles. It is just a cheaper cable with their name on it. No different than the Mogami, belden, or general brands out there

When I used the Monster Studio Pro 1000 (SP1000) I found a noticeable difference in sound quality. Can't comment much on durability myself though as I never used them for long.
