I currently use a closed-back 2x12 with Eminence Texas Heats. They sound pretty good but I'm not going to say they are the best.

My opinion is that low-wattage speakers tend to work best with older amps, as they typically don't have as much gain. So the lower-wattage speakers break up easier and the synthesis of the amp and speaker provides a nice tone.

For modern high-gain amps, I definitely prefer the high-wattage Celestions. They can handle the gain and low-end. They sound tight and can handle the power without getting muddy.

Are they fairly similar ? Have you tried a G12-80 w/1777 cone ?

The stock CL80 in my JCM800 combo is very articulate, but my favorite is greenback-loaded 412s.

EVM12L No better speaker to my ears. V30's are too dark.

I've got a V30 and and G12H80 in my Laney GS212IE cabinet. They sound good together.

The G12-80's and G12-65's are very similar. The G12-65's having more mids. Yes, I own a Marshall 4x12 loaded with 1777 cone G12-80's, it sounds great! I just prefer the bass cone(444) G12-80's because they supposably can handle more low end because of the bass cone. They pretty much sound identical. I also own a cab with 444 cone G12-65's as well.

Thanks man. I've got a couple G12-80s coming my way (1777 & 444). Should be cool mixed with my 65s.

Eminence speakers seem to lack that rich top end sounds that the celestions have, Vintage 30's are great for handling massive overdrive but the celestion G12 neo speakers are just a bit better.
I dont get scared but i do get shocked!!

I think vintage 30's are my favorite...... however when I bought my Vox AC30 I didn't like the celestions in it so I ended up buying the AC30 that had the Vox speakers in it & saved myself some money.
