Re: Why is my amp still squealing??

Your amp is squealing because it's a Mesa!
    All kidding aside!

No joke, where I work, 60% of the mesa product we sell comes back within the first 3 months! and not just because the dumb kids with rich parents don't know how to use it, I can honestly say from the mesa products I used to own, compared to thier new amps, thier quality control and quality of components has slipped drastically.

now it could also be that a component inside the amp has genuinly failed ahead of it's average age/useage and needs to be replaced. I would seriously have the amp looked over by a pro tech, not just taken to some music store for some boob to look at!

Since you've done all the obvious things, that would be my next step, oh yeah and getting another amp!

Hey bro... watch it with the snide Mesa remarks. There are a lot of Mesa players here. I am one of them. Whats a little squealing anyway.

No, I won't be getting another amp. It sounds awesome, just seems to feedback easily at very low volumes. The fuse has never blown or anything, so hopefully it will be an easy thing to diagnose. I've been busy lately, but I'll call Mesa tomorrow and ask them before I take it in to my local shop again. And the local shop is not only an authorized Mesa service center, but they're also top notch guitar and amp techs who will work on everything and know their sh1t! It is probably just a cap and a really easy fix.

I've looked inside Joe's amp. We actually tried to troubleshoot this problem a few months ago. The only thing I did was change the reverb cables (actually...we thought that it was a reverb-related problem). He then brought it to the shop I used to work at that is one of only 3 or 4 Mesa repair specialists on the East Coast. They fiddled with it also, and apparently didn't find the source of the problem. I have the same amp Joe has, but I haven't had a problem with mine (yet...knocking on wood)

Joe...keep us posted here as to a possible cause/solution. I wanna know just in case this should happen to mine!

No, the only problem back then was just the reverb died. They rewired the input or output jack on the tank, that didn't work, then they discovered it was a bad FET (if I remember correctly). They replaced the FET and then the reverb wouldn't turn on/off from the footswitch, and that was a defective "new" FET from Mesa. Replaced it again and it's been fine. The amp feedback is a totally new and separate problem that I wasn't having at the time the reverb crapped out. I just called Mesa now and left a message; just gotta wait and see when they call me back.

Dat's right....I realized as I was writing my post that the problem we were checking into was a little fuzzy. Gotta understand...I've been on and off my meds since my whole situation changed a few months back. But the voices keep telling me all will be ok soon!

Eh, I just talked to Mesa, they just thought it was the tubes and had no clue. I'll have to take it in to Dennis some time this week for him to look at then. Mesa also mentioned something about a mod that was done to the amp (which I also read about on H/C awhile ago) about the output transformer, but he said that wouldn't be the cause of the feedback problem anyway. I'll have Dennis check it out and hopefully it's an easy fix.

Re: Why is my amp still squealing??

what about a bad tube or a tube socket thats alittle messed up. I had this problem after having a mod'd randall re-tubed. about a week later it squeelled like a pig at almost any volume on the gain channel. the tech said it was just a bad preamp tube. maybe a bad socket can have the same effect?
