• Opinions please-best modeling amp under $500

Just as the title says. Looking for overall versatility, not just metal. Built in effects don't really matter(don't use them anyway).Interested in 1x12 combo. So far i'm leaning towards Tech 21. Any thoughts and opinions are greatly appreciated.

Line 6 Flextone III - easily the best IMO. The Tech 21 is really close though.

The Flextone III is a big improvement over the Flextone II's. No farting bass notes. It really is a sweet amp. I have the 2-12XL. The 1-12 has a powered speaker out I believe. Cant go wrong.

Is the Line 6 Spyder 2 any good? Jack.

It's fair. Not great, not bad. Sounds more sterile than the Flextone.

What about a Pod XT and a used keyboard amp or powered monitor?

              Hi!

Well what about the new Behringers V-amp head and buy some cheap used 2x12" cabinet? My oppinnion is that V-amp get "quite" close on this modeling thing. Not so good sounds as my HD 147, but.. still its cheap. I use V-amp2 for my computer recording. Or a used Flexstone III or II, but spider is IMHO quite bad..

Heres one clip what i did in a quite a hurry its done with V-amp2 straight to computer.

POD XT into a keyboard amp sounds kinda muddy to me. I'd rather use a Flextone III.

I agree about the spider's. I have a spider 2 112, and spend most of my time playing through a guitarport because it sounds better for the most part. Everytime you switch channels you have a bad volume problem, plus it just doesn't sound alive. I just bought a modded gnx-1 off e-bay so hopefully that helps.

Well I for one cannot believe how loud I can get my Flextone III without it breaking up on me. Thats not been the case with the older models.

Tech21 Sansamp PSA-1. Simply awesome! I can't believe how good it sounds. For live performance you power it with anything, tube, solid state, and sound systems

Oh yea, I forgot Adirondak Guitars has 'em in stock for a good price. Give Dennis a call. He's near Albany, NY. I paid less for a NEW one, than a used one recently went for on Ebay!
