Can anyone recommend a bass distortion?

hello,

My bass player is wanting a distortion unit, and he's tried my Boss DS-1 and doesn't like it. We are going to borrow a friend's metal Zone, but if anyone else knows of anything that works well with bass, let me know.

He plays an active Ernie ball sting ray, through an ampeg head and 2 four ten cabs.

Tech 21 Bass Driver. That's the king!! Maybe the MXR Bass DI+ might suit you too, but the Bass Driver is the best.

Having used both the Tech 21 and the MXR, the Tech 21 is a warmer distortion, where the MXR is a bit more bitting and guitar like. Some other options would be a RAT (nice for really disgusting bass sounds), or a cranked tube screamer (for overdrive and girth without over the top distortion). BOSS also makes (made?) a bass overdrive pedal, but have no experience with it.
