• hey Twisteramps, how you liking that .50 cal?

just wanted to see/hear your review of it. i'd like to know the settings you prefer. i keep mine pretty smooth and pretty flat, no scoop here. hell i hardly even use the eq. are you able to ballance the channels, or is it one or the other for you? i end up leaving the vol 1 up all the way since its the imput gain. and using the master as the vol control. anyway, i'd like to know how you're using this little smokey!

I hope it makes it through shipping ok. I just got my VHT today, original packing box and material yet the UPS goons managed to give it a beating. The reverb tank was flopping around inside..dicked around with it for a while, amp sounds great but I can't get the reverb to work...I'll dick with it some more tomorrow.

look inside the reverb tank, there are some small little wires that have to be attached to work - they are almost like hairs. You may have had one break.

Only bright side is, reverb tanks are pretty cheap and easy to replace. Sorry to hear that your amp got nailed in shipping.

thanks Pete...I'll look at that tonight. It sucks because it was a biotch getting it mounted back in there. I had to remove the whole thing from the the case to mount that sucker its mounted to the top of the inside of the head.

let us know how the .50 cal sounds when you get her today! Sweet amps. I saw a Combo .50 Cal with EL-84's but no EQ on eBay for a decent price.

you don't need the EQ - it sounds great by itself.

when you get yours start off with all the tone knobs at 5 and the presence at 0 and then work your way from there. i run the vol 1 and lead vol maxed out and use the master for volume. you might like having the master cracked and the 2 volums for vol. just remember that vol1 is the imput gian. - thats why i keep it cranked and use the master. anyway- you'll love it!

Re: hey Twisteramps, how you liking that .50 cal?

I have the EQ all the time in the lead /hi gain channel on the DC-5, I never use it on the clean channel

I also liked it on the VHT 50 CL...I just got it so I didn't try to tweak it w/o it first. I guess thats the best thing to do, make it sound without EQ first.

Although the EQ isn't a requirement per se to get nice tone out of these amps, it certainaly is easier to find a good tone while using them They were offered as an option for a reason...hehehe

yeah i can use mine to smooth out the tone easily, but i like a more harsh, midrange scream and crunch. sometimes i feel the eq can wash the sound out pretty quick so i use it sparingly.

Re: hey Twisteramps, how you liking that .50 cal?

Got the amp. I used to have one years ago... and yeah, it was nice coming home again. Amp is damn near mint except for a missing boogie logo... got a slipcover with it, and also the original footswitch.

One thing that I prefer on this amp over my .22s I had is that if you crank the preamp volume, the clean tone does get overdriven but doesn't go to hell like it did on my 22s. They would get this awful paper tearing sound past 8 or so.

Lead channel is high gain, but not so much that it compresses everything too much... this amp kicks butt, can't wait to post some clips.
