• Hot Rodded Marshalls vs. Soldano slo's

I have always been nothing but marshall's all my life
I use a 3 head setup with my bradshaw rig
jubille 50/100 watt for clean
1983 jcm 800-50 watt for crunch
1980 jmp 50 watt for leads
The jcm and jmp are modded but can be returned to the original state no problem
the jmp has the old brass bottom soldano hot mod and sounds like heaven
the jcm has the red bottom (silver pins) hot mod
only problem is the 800 has killed both of my hot mods-amp was retubed and service last year
I had 5 hot mods but decided to sell three on ebay because I thought I would never have this problem
Question is I need some help from the soldano guys as far as a comparision between hot rodded marshalls and soldano's-any comment will really help
Which do you prefer and how close are they?
I might retire the marshalls and grab a couple of slo's

You should try Decatone.
It has 3CHs.
Or how about getting a HR100 or 50 plus for Crunch,SLO for lead and clean.

I'm no expert but for the 10 minutes that I got to play a Decatone, I liked it better than all the Marshalls I've ever played in my life.

I'd say grab one used, see what you think, and if you dig it - great! if not, sell it for what you paid. This is why I never buy amps new... I like to try em out first. I bought my Vetta new, but borrowed one from a friend a bit first.

Re: Hot Rodded Marshalls vs. Soldano slo\'s

The problem around here its hard to find the botique amps
every once in awhile GC will get a matchless in
but the problem is the jcm it has more than enough gain (warm and smooth-not a buzzsaw)but hell I do not want to spend $150.00-$200.00 every 6 months on hot mods.
I have a chance to grab 2 slo's at a great price
but I have never played them-I guess the best thing to do is get them and wire them to my rig and check them out
I will let you guys know what I find out
Any other comments are welcome-Thanks

You should call the sellers and let them play over the phone.
That will be another thing you can do when you can't try it before buying one.
Request them to play some Racer X and Yngwie, also some MacAlpine at double the original speed.

Also if you don't like it, you can always resale for the same money(usually).
That's the way of buying amps sometimes.

Re: Hot Rodded Marshalls vs. Soldano slo\'s

Well, rest assured, that the Soldanos are considerably higher build quality and have higher component quality than ANY Marshall ever produced. And the SLO100 probably sounds better than almost any Marshall that I have owned. I have "heard" some good sounding Marshalls though. The last statement is somewhat a personal opinion I suppose, as some people truly are die hard Marshall guys. But, I sorta feel that the SLO-100 is what a marshall could have been if built right.

I still like certain old Marshall 800s though, and some Modded earlier units. But, Soldano has the reliability and quality big time.

No no,that wasn't mine
I found that photo last night on Les Paul Forum hoping to show it to someone else(=you)

My rig is way too small comparing to yours.
I just took this picture half hour ago.
I also have Rocktorn Chameleon pre, another 4x12 Marshall just like the one in the picture, also 5150 4x12 and Bogner 6x10 they are not in the picture(I have them at my work).
