I just dont understand how you are going to be happy with that trebely buzzy high end a slo has.I played one for hours and just couldnt get a good tone out of it.They have no bottom end.I know they are great build quality but if you cant get a good tone out of it,it aint worth ****.take my advice try a Cameron mod on one of your Marshalls. It will cost you around $500 to $600 with the shipping.

I don't know maybe I want something different,But I love my marshalls and the 800 started eating hot mods so I thought I would post here and get some feedback

Hey is that a problem with the Hot Mods? You are the first one I have ever heard blowing them up.

I jsut got another 800 on ebay this morning and am thinking of putting it in that and selling a MIG that I was going to use it in... But if the 800's eat the Hot Mod than I will not use it in that... Hmmmm. What do you think????

I agree with Paul. Mark's work is the best. I have two of his amps and they are amazing. Here is his number.

818-500-0286

I don't know if he is taking amp at the moment or not. The wait might be long but very well worth it!!!!!!

Hey Chuck Paul did have a hearing problem until I hooked him up with the Cameron head. Now he has tone! It took me forever to get him to get rid of his boogie woogie crap.....

Real funny Tim.I remember not to long ago you had a few Lee Jackson heads that you thought were the greatest thing.I guess we all grow and find better things.Chuck sorry man I just cant get into the slo deal.Believe me I tried, they just sound very thin and buzzy to me.I know they are great quality they just sound like crap to me.

A 2204. It is a horizontal input head but they still have the Drake transformers and the capacitors of the original design....Other than the pots being mounted to the board instead of the chasis a 2204 is pretty much the same design as the original earlier models that had the vertical inputs from what I have found. I still can find the horizontal 2204's at a great deal. The 2203 heads changed throughout the years such as capacitors being cut from 6 to 3 and the Drake transformers changing to cheaper ones. The 2204 really did not have that many changes to them and go for cheap but have a great sound for way less $$$$ IMO anyway...

Firebird V,
I have had this jcm for about 3 years now and the hot mod lasted for about 1 year, the last one only went for 6 months
the first one when you plug it in you get nothing but nasty sounds
I do not know if it was a bad batch or what?
I talked to Mike about making another run on these and I have to order like 500= $5000.00 I'm not sure about the price-its been awhile
but Mike told me there is really nothing that can go wrong with these but I have had 2 fail in the last 2 years-same head? I did check the bias and it was dead-on so who knows???
parntz145 & Tim Krueger,
Thanks for the info and the number
Funny thing is my 1980 2204 jmp head has the original hot mod with the brass base and that head sounds amazing-I will never part with it no matter what-Mike even told me that the brass plate hot mod were not the best-you could also trade in the brass plate for a red one at no charge
but man the brass plate I have had for maybe 5 years and it is the bomb
well I get the slo tomorrow for a week to try out and run thru my rig so I will update soon
Thanks Guys

Re: Hot Rodded Marshalls vs. Soldano slo\'s

Usually the first 2#s are the years.
If it starts with 92, then it is 92made.
Some say the early ones(late 80's- very early 90's)are very good.
Also Soldano mod sch as Depth knob,Hayne switch and stuff are killer.
Spend enough time and find a right one.

My SLO is a rack head. It is an 87 or 88 can't recall. Anyway. It sounds fantastic. I was at the Paramus NJ, GC and they have one in there backroom ($2499 used!!!! WHAT???? ) Anyway. It sounded pretty good. Not using the cabs and speakers I like but damn good! I did not check the year. The Hollywood shop ones are the earlier ones. Chuckracer had one that was from 92 - I believe that is the last year before the move to Washington. I think they all sound pretty damn close do to the fact that the same parts and tolerances of those parts are within the same spec of manufacture. In otherwords. I don't think it matters at all due to the parts having the same rigid spec. Most of the reason why people feel the older ones sounded better was because Soldano changed tubes to Sovtek brand on the later heads. Changing tubes is something you will do anyway so....
