Re: Soldano SLO vs HR50+ vs Vetta

I'm sorry to disturb you all. But I've never ever heard a Soldano before. None of the shops around here have one...

I think more guys who play modellers should do this kind of side by side comparison. Please note I am not knocking you guys who play medellers. One of my Bro's plays Line6 and I think his patches are cool. But to really hear (and feel!) the difference, more guys would benefit from a side by side try out - with your own guitar, suitable volume, etc. etc.

        Flame away.

Of course I have to chime in since I am a modeller but for this time... I agree with you. Nothing beats a real SLO. I have yet to find a modeller that can capture the true essence of an SLO. It is probably do the opposite of most players.I play my Mesa Boogie at home and I use my Line 6 for gigs.

One thing we agreed with (there were three guitarists playing each other's stuff) was that you could tell it was an SLO copy, and it did sound like one... just didn't have that extra little something. If we weren't comparing them directly, it would have sounded fine.

I'd bet anything you could say that about every single patch on every single modeling amp...

I disagree. If you lived closer, we could do a 'blind taste test' and you could find out for sure. The Soldanos have a more complex tone IMHO than about anything else I've ever owned... and I have owned a few JCM800s that I compared to the Vetta - I preferred the tone of the Vetta over them. I also didn't try to tweak the soldano model on the Vetta that much either... I could have gotten it closer I'm sure.

Heck, if you want an independent (ie they didn't own any of the amps compared, or have a myopic view of tube amps or modelling amps) ask Sully how the Vetta sounded against the tube amps at the Texas ampfest. He seemed to like the Vetta better than just about everything else there BUT a Soldano.

Hmmm...interesting. I trust your ear so I'll take your word for it.

LOL Chuck. If you lived closer, I'd have ya come by and help me tweak some of these tube amps I'm building/messing with... I have four that are in various stages of completion. And I bought a hohner PA amp (runs 2 RCA 6L6GCs and 3 12ax7s) to rebuild into a guitar amp one of these days.

I have to agree... The Vetta does some great stuff but some things it lacks IMO. Soldano I fully agree. I also have to say the Powerball Mod isn't close at all and I mostly use the third Channel on my Powerball. The Uberschall is great but it doesn't sound just like an Uber to me. It i8s not that the Vetta is bad it is just more the Limitations that the Vetta has. Now it also has things that just outweigh it's limitations also..

My SP-77 through my Engls power section was amazing and that is the only real Soldano I owned. Seriously it was awesome to me and I would not hesitate getting an SLO or an HR

I think that most of the Vetta 2 models could fool most people; just not the Soldano SLO model.

I've heard the HR50 sounds better... but I have no idea. I need two channels at a minimum, so I never really messed with one. We don't see many soldanos in oklahoma, or amps other than peavey/marshall/fender/mesa. When I gigged with my VHT a drunk guy came up one night and told me I played well, but I should save up my money for a Marshall. *!*
