if you are just wanting to boost a already distorted amp which is what the guy originally asked about your not going to need to use a full on metal distortion pedal just something to push it a little harder like a tube screamer a sd1 or ds1. if you are running your amp clean cuz you dont like the distortion on your amp then yes get a distortion pedal or better yet get a different amp because you will go through a bunch of pedals and waste a ton of money and end up buying a different amp in the end anyway
