• 1x12 combos?

hey folks,
I was looking for a small 1x12 combo that I could tote around from one drunken jam session to the next drunken jam session. Plus I was looking for a modeling amp, so I could do the "one cord-straight in" thing. So far I've narrowed it down to the Behringer V-ampire LX112, and the Line 6 Spider 1x12. Anyone have an opinion on these two? I'm making the purcahse this weekend. Let the sparks fly! O.k., that's 3 for Line 6! But, it that because you've heard the V-ampire, or just because Line 6 is a better name brand? A lot of folks here seem to dig the V-Amp IIs over the Line 6 POD...

behringer has bad qc. just try twisting all the knobs, they are not all the same. some feel sticky, some feel loose. cheep parts. line 6 physically feels like better quality.

Line 6, I wouldn't go spider though that's their lower end stuff. I've got a flextone Plus II and I run it in stereo with a Marshall DSL201 (both 1 X 12 amps, 60 watts and 20 watts respectively) and everyone who has come to my house and heard this set up is blown away. They compliment each other really well, and I get a lot more volume than you would think.
If this is our perdition, will you walk with me?

O.k., thanks for all the replies! I managed to find a local store that has them both for under $300, so I'll drag my GMP down there tomorrow to try them both out, side by side. The whole point is to have something that sounds acceptable, but that I won't cry about if I knock a Heineken over on it. Kmanick, I'll check out the Flextone while I'm there too.

I have had most of the Line 6 amps and the new stuff is head and shoulders above their older products.
Here are my picks starting with the best regarding combos:
Vetta 2
Vetta 1
Flextone 3
Spider 2
Flextone 2xl
Flextone 2 Plus

Behringers are made in China, ergo, crap.

Re: 1x12 combos?

Update: I went and played through both these amps, side by side. Took my new GMP Xplorer down so I knew what it was going to sound like at home. I was leaning towards the Line 6 anyway, but it was a rainy day and I had nothing better to do, so I tried the Behringer Vampire too. And guess what?? The Vampire sounded better. The cleans we're more crisp and detailed, and the distortion/gains had more of a "real" sound. The Line 6 sounded very processed/digital. The Behringer tones overall were more natural sounding, at least to me. It was easier to operate, came with a footswitch, (as opposed to the additional $$ with the Line 6)had a LOT of great ins/outs that I'll find very useful for home recording, AND I actually had a sales guy who wasn't 15 and knew a little bit about modeling amps. He clued me in to a website to where I could download POD/Line 6 tones and convert them into whatever format Behringer uses. So 3 days later, I have the Behringer, and I've also downloaded and converted all the Line 6 tones that I liked and they're part of my patches. So now it's a Behringer 6 or a Line Vampire, etc, and I'm VERY happy with it, especially for what I paid. Now, of course it's not a Vetta II, but I wasn't going to pay $1500 for a practice amp either. Just thought I'd pass that info along.

can the behringer use the pod xt, hd147 or the vetta models?
and can you pot the link to the site?
thanks!!!

Hey Data,
You can convert any Line 6 tones that you can find in the Line 6 Tone Library, on the Line 6 site. Or, if you know somebody with a Vetta, Pod XT, etc, you can midi dump them into your PC and then convert them into the Behringer format. The converter website is: http://home.swbell.net/bfalch1/
It's just some dude's homepage, but it's cool enough that i gave the guy a $5 donation. It's well worth it for all the free patches I got!
