Re: Worst amp you\'ve ever heard

I think the worst amp I've played through is the Peavey Wiggie. If they were to improve it significantly it might sound like ass - as is, it is far worse.

OK, i take back my comment on the PEavey rage. Because yesterday i played through some really expensive and crappy sounding Crate. They charged over £1,500 for that piece of ****. My old crappy watson amp sounded better than that. It was all hiss and no balls. I was using a PRS through it too so it couldn't of been the guitar. Bo**ocks to that amp

my buddies late 70's peavey deuce.... the clean is ok..but his preamp section sounds like sh!t.
I finally got him to let loose some of his cash in the late '80s and he bought a jcm900 half stack that still has the original tubes in it.. its tube time and hes on the cheap side so his marshall isnt sounding much better than the deuce.
I was also really disappointed with the jackson apogee combo nothing like what I expected

I'm guessing not many folks have had the chance to play through a Krank Revolution series head yet, because they have yet to be mentioned in this thread. My local guitar shop has like 3 or 4 and they are all laughably terrible.

I keep hearing that about Krank. Recent live pix of The Haunted have them playing Kranks live so I hope their tone doesnt suck when I see them in 2 weeks.

[/ QUOTE ]Do you mean he turned the cab backwards? Turning the head wouldn't affect feedback.

I used to own the big brother to that amp: the Peavey Mace. It's 160 W of 6L6GC output power, but with a solid state preamp that sounds like a filtered chainsaw if you try to get any distortion from the amp. I used mine for several years as a power section for a preamp and it'd sounded pretty good. As a metal/hardrock amp it sucked very badly - much worse than many solid state amps around.

GORILLA 1x8 practice amp. Oh dear God it was awful.........

Honorable mention to virtually all combo amps made by Crate in the late '80s through early '90s with their cheesy distortion (and lots of it). The amps that started a trailer park revolution.

He turned the cabinet around and left the amp facing forward I think - was having all sorts of trouble with feedback.

The venue was a comedy club, and the guy running sound was probably more used to shecky green than some rock dude playing a cranked tube amp. Sounded good by the time Marty was done, however.

Remember his big rant onstage, and how pissed he got at Paul or Todd, whoever it was who tuned his guitar?

The things a band must do with no money...

Anyway, what's so bad about the bandit? I thought it was really good for a solid state. IMHO, you really can't get much better. (For solid state, that is.)

Must second (or more like 23'd votes at this point):
Crates: Lousy, farty, and puny. Drop'em once and they're gone.
Gorilla: Enough said.

And the funniest story about Rogue while I'm at it:

SOME OTHER KID: Hey, nice guitar! I've got a big amp too!
ME: Whatcha got?
OTHER KID: It's pretty big, and cool sounding! It's louder than hell!
ME: (inquisitively)Yes...
OTHER KID: Ever heard of Rogue?
ME: Yes. You're in a punk band aren't you?
OTHER KID: (actually surprised as well) How did you know?
ME: Lucky guess I suppose.

The rest was predictable, played a Squire guitar, probably the Tom Delonge special. I hate punkers.
