• Built a killer pedal... check it out! :)

Ok. JCF member Dreamland_Rebel has a Boogie EL84 .50. I bought one recently, and he was asking me if I could build a pedal that would allow you to have a volume control that worked along with the channel switcher on the amp.

In other words, many two channel amps have a clean channel that's too loud in comparison to the overdrive one, without a way to level them out, unless you have the internals of the amp modified. My Budda Superdrive 18 had this problem, older Mesa .22s have it, and so do the Mesa .50 EL84s. I'm sure other amps do this too.

    So... I built this:

Here's what it does: It can be used as a channel switcher only, where you can use a guitar cord. Advantage: you can pick the length of footswitch you need. Sometimes you need a few feet, sometimes maybe 20 or more... this solves that.

It also can be used as a footswitchable volume cut for a single channel head. Have an old Marshall, and are getting tired of dialling down the volume on your guitar for cleans and getting it at JUST the right spot each time? Just set your full up sound first, then dial this pedal back to your clean tone. I also added true bypass, and a three position 'bright' switch that helps preserve the high end of your guitar.

Also, the big enchilada... It can be used as both at once. So you can switch EITHER channel's volume with the pot in the pedal, it has a channel switch. This way, you can alter the gain of either channel, and it can be used with ANY 2 channel amp.

Thanks to Dreamland_Rebel for the basic idea of a channel switcher/volume control in one. I tested it with my Soldano HR50+ and it worked great.

I thought guitar pedals were supposed to have stupid un-related names for their controls like "pain" and "whey". At least that's what DOD thought for a few years. This just makes too much sense.

                  WHEN CAN I GET MINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

                  DUDE YOU ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

                  two questions:
1.does the bright switch only work on the channel assigned to the volume control on the pedal or can it be independant?

2.will your guitar cable run through the footswitch, or will it be seperate like normal?

thanks so much pete. i can't wait to get one and try it out!
finally i'll be able to use cleans live again.

                    1) bright switch only works on the channel that is being controlled by the volume, and the higher the volume is, the less effect it has. The channel that isn't being controlled by the volume is TOTALLY true bypassed, so it doesn't affect that one at all.

                    2) You need three cords. One for your footswitch, and one in and one out of the pedal. The only way to make it otherwise would be a stereo cable that split to a pair on the other end... and that would be a nightmare. This way you can use regular cords and it's no big deal.

I also put the footswitch jack in the center top of the pedal - never understood why mesa put it on the side.

I'd draw up the diagram and submit it to the Patent Office if you haven't done so already.
It would suck to have someone steal such a great idea ad reap the benefits you should get. Brilliant idea, and YOU sould profit from it.
