No it definately was 931014. He later told me that he had two with consecutive serial numbers and that both were supposedly built for Dan Spitz

Hmmm. Well I guess this is the later of the two but was it built for DS? Hmmm. I guess if someone were interested they could call Soldano to find out..... They gave me the rundown on mine in a minute.

An interesting story about the reason for the move from L.A. was due to an earthquake that caused damage to the shop. Bill Sundt told me they were in the process of rebuilding, Mike looked at property rates back home in Seattle and the decision was made to move instead of staying in California.

The best part about Soldano is absolutely nothing changed in terms of build quality, components, etc. upon the change. Some sellers appear to try and capitalize on the "California" built Soldanos as a PRS guy or San Dimas Charvel guy might when selling items. If anything, there is a more stable environment in Washington and certainly less stressful than L.A. what with riots, earthquakes, high property/rental and cost of living associated with the area.

I do have a question, were all the Rackmount SLO amps stamped? I can't remember others I've seen. All the heads are Sharpied. I was thinking they may have stamped these due to the metal chassis?

I guess they are using custom Mercury Magnetics transformers now. I just bougt a few of old stock transformers and a prototype Mercury Mag output from Bill Sundt on ebay. These were reverse wound and patterned after the Deyoung and he said they are about as close as you are going to get without getting a DeYoung. Some were Schumachers used in Hot Rod 50's etc (which weren't DeYoung obviously). He sold about 30 transformers, some power, some outputs. They all use 6L6's save for the lower wattage ones.

                    Re: Rack SLO on ebay.

Was this just a couple months ago? I know they just moved facilities again (within Seattle) and they cleaned house before the move.

They have always used MM transformers for everything but the SLO. Pretty cool you got a couple custom MMs. What are you going to do with them?

                      Re: Rack SLO on ebay.

Actually, it was just posted this week and the auctions ended last night. According to him, this stuff was leftover from the move and some of it still had the prototype order tags on it dated from late '96 (Oct).
I was able to obtain two 100w outputs. One was the first SLO100 proto from MM, I guess they selected #2 proto design but the listing said the differences were very subtle.
Another listing were for SLO100 output transformers that were made by Schumacher and were reverse engineered from Deyoung designs. They were meant to go in overseas models but the matching Schumacher power (power not output) transformers failed.. so given the reliability issue of the power trans, very few of the outputs made it into amps and they started using the Mercury Magnetics.

I have three pending 100watt head projects that I could use these with. I have another MM that is the 1959 replacement output tranny, but I haven't decided firm which is going to match up best where yet.

The also had a bunch of Schumacher 50watt output and power trans which the ad said went into the mid 90's Hot Rod 50's and all other models of that nature- Deco etc.

I was able to get a Astroverb/Atomic 20watt output that was a MM prototype as well. That will be for a different project.

If you want the eBay#..just look up Soldano under completed auctions. I just happened across these as I was shopping for a Hotmod.
