  • 5150: noisy effects loop

(ive tried searching archives for this)

My 5150 is prety old. its an original block letter EVH model. The amp kicks ass, I love the sound, but whenever i switch the effects loop on, i get a slight humm. I have 3 pedals in my loop all connected with monster and spectraflex cables. I also took all the pedals out of my loop and connected an Alesis midiverb II to it which i know is in perfect conidition, also connecting it with spectraflex and a monster cable, and the hum is actually louder with the Alesis and no pedals.

just wondered what you guys thought i should do.

The loops in the 5150's are kind of noisy to begin with.

Can you hear the hum on the both channels with the loop on?

Maybe try swapping the 12ax7's around...

I had the same prob with my 5150. I think I solved it by moving around the preamp tubes. It doesnt help that its one of the noisiest amps ever though.

I had 2 of them and they both hummed in the effects loop.
