  • Mark IV vs. Triaxis

I've finally realized that while I do indeed love my Pod XT Pro, I want the tone, power, and authenticity of a real amp. I've played and owned many amps. Of them all, I've liked the Mesa Boogie Mark Series the most. I've owned a Mark IV and I'd have to say that it's probably the one I liked the most of the Marks. I dug it because it had the Mark tone but a bit more Marshall to it than the others.

That said, the Mark IIC+ and III are Godly. I love the tone of those too. The Colisuem Simul-Class models specifically. So, I'm thinking of getting a Triaxis/2:90 rig. It doesn't sound exactly like any of the Mark heads but gets 90 percent of the sounds and offers all three in one place.

Of course I could always get a Quad and mod channel 1 to IIC+ specs but that wouldn't give me that little extra, what I call "Marshallness" that I like from the Mark IV.

So what do you guys think?

I had the Triax/2:90 rig for years, I loved it but it never sounded quite like a head. So I traded it for a Triple Rec, that I traded for a Road King. That will be my live amp for a long time...

My ultimate dreamamp is a Mark IIC+.

I think I'm going to try to trade an SL2 + some extra cash for one anytime now.

I do think Marks are better than the triaxis, but then I've never liked preamps that much, more of a head or combo guy here.
You took too much, man. Too much. Too much.

I had the triaxis 2:90 setup also. It doesnt compare to a head. I never really thought it was a great tone. It was almost fake sounding, not as organic as a head. I would say it sounds like you have a blanket over your speakers. Like the tone wants to be there but just inst. I sold mine and would advise you to buy a head. If you are into the Boogie tone get one of there heads. Stay away from the triaxis, just an overpriced piece of garbage. jmo guys.

Yeah I'm leaning towards the Mark IV already so I'll probably go ahead and get that. Maybe I'll get a cheap used one and then send it off to Pete Cornish or someone who can rig the pots and sliders with MIDI Controlled Motors like the Soldano X99.
