  • BBE Sonic Maximizer

    Okay, first off, what exactly does this thing do? I've heard tons of people raving about them, and I figure I might try one out.

    Secondly, which model should I get? There are a bunch of different ones on ebay, and I have no idea which is which. Help.

    Oh yeah, and when I get one, where do I put it in my effects chain?

      Sound waves of higher freqencies travel at a faster rate thru the air than lower frequencies. In essence, you could say its a frequency delay in that it makes all sound hit your ears at the same time. Its really good if you use alot of lowend, and it sounds too muddy.........
      Model you need depends on setup...........

        I have a 462. Picked it up for about $50. The newer ones have a differet chipset than mine. It did make things sound less muddy, or more clear.

        GUITAR->HEAD->LOOPOUT->BBE->GMAJOR->LOOPIN->HEAD->CAB

        I remember a good thread on this subject awhile back. See if you can find it.

          I did a search, and according to Bill, I need to get the 422. It sounds like exactly what I need for my Randall. I have it set with a ton of low-end, but the high end is not well defined at all. I can't seem to achieve a nice precise crunchy chug with it. It seems much too loose to my ears.

            Try dialing out your some of your low end. It will suck power from other frequencies, and it will just get lost in the mix anyways. What sounds good alone doesn't always sound good in a band setting.

                  BBEs work awesome with some amps and sound like ass with others, you can only try. They make 5150s sound outstanding, they make my Marshall rig and my current CAE rig sound yukky. Just depends I guess.

                  Yep, you want the 422A for guitar, they sound nice. For general sound apps and recording, a later one (362 etc)would probably work better.

                    I hear what you're saying Ace, and believe me, I have tried. It doesn't seem to matter though. If I take away bottom end, I'm taking away part of what makes this amp sound so great, and at the same time it doest tighten up the top end enough. You know that sizzle that sounds awful, and irritating when you have too much? Well, I have the opposite problem. I have the presence cranked and I still can't get enough of those super high frequencies. For everything else, this amp is unbelievable. It has an assload of bottom and mid, and plenty of high end, but like I said it's loose and harsh high end. Does that make sense?

                        I am getting a 482i for Xmas. I will post how she fares using various Jacksons through Dual rec and oversized recto cab. Stay tuned brethren.

                              The bottom end should be handled by the bassist. Most great guitar tones don't have thunderous bottom end.
