The Vetta is a solid state amp. It will sound AT LEAST as good at low volume as it does at high volume. And you can run a Vetta into a 2x12, a 1x12, two 4x12's or straight into a board/computer.

The POD is a nice unit but @ $300 + $50/per for each of the upgrade packs (there are what, 3 of them?) you'd be sinking quite a bit of money into it. Add $100 if you want the more usable XT Live. If you find yourself in the $450-550 range on a POD it's definitely worth looking into a used Vetta I in the $750-850 range.

I've got a Vetta II and a PODxt. As great as the Vetta II is, it's too much for just a low volume jam/recording unit. That's why I'm selling my Vetta II. As much as I'd like you to buy my Vetta Econ, I'd recommend getting the PODxt. BTW, the modeling packs are 3 for $100. You can probably score an XT off of Ebay for about $275 and then do the upgrade. My only beef with the XT Live is the switches and pedals are cheap - nowhere near the quality of the standalone Line 6 pedals.

I’ve been curious about all the rage regarding the vetta / pod products. So this past week I started looking into them ...

After reviewing the podxt model pack samples that are available on the line6 website I have to say I am NOT impressed at all! The metal shop samples they provided sounded like $hit! I will add that the samples of the vetta sounded better, but the ones the featured have all been mixed.

I think I could model those amps better by tweaking my GSP2101 - in fact I started doing that today! Course I dont have all those amps in front of me so Ive resorted to downloading mp3 samples off all the amp websites. bogner, diezel, mesa, peavey, vox, fender, randall, hughes and kettner, and I have a my marshalls ... In no time I should have my own modeling settings [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img] Not the most technical process, but what the heck its something to toy with.

One word...VOX. The VOX is the best modeling I have ever tried. I have heard good things about HK's modeling, but never tried one and they are EXPENSIVE!

Line 6 suffers from poor clips on their website. They really should do what bogner and some other amp companies do - namely, find some really good sounding samples from the people who use the gear, and post those. I know a guy who recorded some of the bogner clips, and his sound better to me than the 'artist' recordings.

I had a Digi 2101 - and to my ear, they aren't even in the same ballpark. The best way to hear any modelling amp is from someone who has owned one for awhile and can actually tweak it to get the most out of it.

Vox excells in two areas: Clean and rock overdrives, not very heavy stuff. Their big advantage over line 6 is that since they don't give you as many options, there aren't as many opportunities for 'misadventure' as the Line 6 stuff gives you.

The Vettas in particular have as many options as a 'real' rig would - I guarantee you it's very easy to get a bad tone out of a rig with tube amplification and high end effects.

The Vox stuff is 'dumbed down' considerably. If you're playing classic rock to clean or jazz and need something that can be dialled in quickly without the need for much flexibility, the Vox may do the job.

...or buy a Yamaha DG series, which sounds nearly as good to my ear and costs much less on the used market.

Sorry guys but Pete is correct on all counts in my book. I am even toying myself about picking up another Vetta (although I amy hold off for a year and get a III or whenever thehy come out) such a great amp. No amp is 100% perfect mind you but as far as Modeling amps go Line 6 is king

I just picked up an XT live and I gotta tell ya, it's an awesome tool! I've played it through the effects return of my Rectifier, and into my 20/20 poweramp. It sounds great with both. I could get that thing cranked up to the point where it was shaking the walls (through a 4x12) in my house and it still sounded full. Actually, the louder I cranked things, the better it sounded. The effects sound great too. the only thing I don't like is the wah (it's not too bad though), and switching from volume to wah... You practically have to jump on the thing to activate the switch.

I'm pretty positive that I'm going to use it live next time we play. It sounds very convincing, and it's way more flexible than your standard amp/cab set up.

I agree the Bogner samples sounded pretty good as did a few of the other manufacturers samples. The Vetta samples weren’t bad compared to the pods, but they were mixed. Id much rather hear nothing but a guitar plugged into the amp - no effects no mixing specially when I’m buying online without trying the thing out first.

I don’t have a vetta or the pod so I cant do a side by side comparison, but I can say that the algorithms I have created with the 2101 sound better than anything I heard out of the pod model pack samples.
