Reverb tank repair question.

My Randall has a 3 spring reverb tank, and one of the springs, and the little doowotsit at the end is missing. I assumed that with it being a 3 spring unit, that it would still function with the 2 springs. Unfortunately, when I turn up the reverb even a hair, there is suddenly all kinds of buzzing type noise from the amp.

If anyone knows anything about this kinda thing, please tell me, is it my reverb tank, or is my reverb circuit fooked up?

If I need to repair the tank, can it be done?

I realize i can get a new one, but that won't do me much good if the reverb circuit in the amp is buggered.

Most likely the tank. Not sure if it's just the missing spring or if some coil and wires are broken in the tank or not, or it could possibly be in the amp or footswitch where the problem lies. It should be an easy and fairly cheap fix. Also check your tubes (if it's a tube amp) as some amps use tubes for the reverb, some don't. My Mesa F-30 has tubes, but the reverb does not work off a tube, I believe it uses a FET for that circuit.

I'll have to check the schematic when I get home Joe. What type of tube would the reverb circuit use? Would it be a 12AT7?

At least I know for sure that it isn't the footswitch, because I havent finished building it yet.

sometimes it's a 12AT7, it could be a 12AY7, or even a 7025.

I was under the impression that a 7025 was a 12AT7.

I belive the 7025 is the same as the 12AX7/ECC83 or M8136. The 12AT7 is also known as the ECC81. The ECC82 is also known as the 12AU7.
