I also thought about getting a Duoverb head. I believe MF was blowing them out at like $399 some months back. I wish I had picked one up. I'm thinking of getting rid of my Fender RocPro 1000 head (which I really like) and picking up one of these.

Ick. I had one. WAYYYY too noisy, and the high gain models are craptacular. By the time I had the amp and the effects I needed, I had more into it than a Flextone III, so I returned it and got that. I'd say look elsewhere unless you REALLY like it after some significant demo time. This amp is NOT in the same ballpark as the Flextone/Duoverb. Don't spend the money and come back disappointed like I did. Make sure you spend some quality time with one first. Seriously.
well i'm gonna try it out. the price was just right so if i don't like it, i'll recoop my costs on the bay.
btw toejam, i wouldn't part with that rock pro. you'll never find as good of a back up head for the $$ as that.
my brother had one and my amp guy reinforced it so it wouldn't crap out as easily. i've never had a more dependable back up than that puppy. yeah, its not the greatest tone in the world, but it will sound decent and won't let you down. if you want something better.. get it. and leave ye old rock pro in the closet, you'll be glad you did. i'm still pissed my brother sold it. hehheh. it got me through some great gigs at the last minute.
Yeah, I guess I'll keep it. Thanks! It is cool, I like the features on it, tone is decent, just it needs a pedal to boost it a little with certain guitars. With my EMG-equipped guitars, it doesn't really seem to need the boost. It's just down in my basement now plugged into a compact Crate 4x12 that sounds pretty good. I also love my Mesa F-30 combo (love that EL84 sound just like you ) and I've been thinking of maybe eventually upgrading to the head version as well. The Duoverb is something I've really thought about as well since you can get two amp models at the same time.

I second keeping the Roc Pro, Toejam. You can only get about $200 for it used anyway, and you're not getting anything better for that $200 anyway, unless you luck into an old Randall RG100ES head with the diode compressor/clipper in it. Those sound pretty damn good but are only 2 channels.
I don't know how much the Duoverb is but you can get a POD 2.0 new for $199 now, and the XT
for $299, so that may be a good option for you.
There's a thought - get a POD and run it through your power section on one of your other amps. YOU WILL BE HAPPIER than with the Duoverb - I can guarantee it!! The only thing I liked about the Duoverb other than it's looks was the "organic" sound it had compared to the rest of the line 6 amps. It was a bit more "real", but came with some other shortcomings.

yeah i've talked my lead guitarist into one of them, i'll probably end up getting one too. but the deal on the duoverb was just too good to pass up. i could probably trade it for the xt live down the road. but we'll see.
Thanks, guys! I've actually been thinking about maybe eventually getting a PODXT Live or one of the other systems with a foot controller (like the Boss GT6, Digitech GNX4 or Vox Tonelab SE).

I'm getting a Flextone II AGAIN for what it's worth. I sold it awhile back (needed cash, not amps), and then sold my original Flextone XL. I was using a POD 2.3 and a Tech 21 PowerEngine 60 for quite awhile. Got tired of that set-up and bought a Fender Stage 1600 (Dyna-Touch series) 2x12 combo with all the effects, tuner, etc., but as cool of an amp as that one is, I just got off the phone with Musician's Friend, and it's going back to exchange for another Flextone III. If I had all the money back I've spent on getting back gear I already had...
